Bar Mitzvah and Bat Mitzvah Candle Lighting Tips
Suggestions to help make candle lighting more successful.

If you have an event planner they will facilitate the candle lighting. Otherwise, it is a good idea to designate someone to help your child during the ceremony.

Make sure the Bar Mitzvah boy or Bat Mitzvah girl stands behind the candles. For great photography, have your friends or family who are being called up stand behind the candles for the picture.

If the candles or holder is more than waist height, you will have to step to the side to get a good photo otherwise you will be blocked by the candelabra.

After the candle is lit, everyone should look at the camera for a photo.

Keep the poems short. Remember that even if it takes two minutes per candle, your guests will be sitting for 35-45 minutes for candle lighting (walking back and forth, photos, etc.).

Don't be afraid to do it your way with your ideas. There is not "right way" or rules when it comes to candle lighting. In fact, there is no religious foundation when it comes to "candle lighting". It is really an opportunity to recognize or honour those individuals who are significant to the Bar Mitzvah or Bat Mitzvah and their family.

Many guests feel left out during candle lighting. Think carefully about who you are NOT calling up.
